THE PARTNER CONSORTIUM
AFETS is implemented by SCENOR in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Prevention of Radicalisation and Promotion of Democracy (IZRD, Berlin). The project brings together a multidisciplinary team with expertise in research, political education, psychosocial counselling and school-based training. Team members have extensive experience working with educators, school psychologists and social workers on the prevention of group-focused enmity, gender-based discrimination and extremism.
SCENOR, as lead partner, draws on a longstanding focus on radicalisation and prevention in school settings. Previous projects such as GameD and CAYET have informed the development of AFETS. GameD created an educational mobile game that strengthens democratic resilience among young people by encouraging critical reflection on online narratives. CAYET developed digital tools and capacity-building formats for youth workers to prevent extremism and disinformation in everyday educational practice. Insights and tools from both projects are now adapted for use in secondary schools to respond specifically to manifestations of anti-feminism and toxic masculinity.
The German project partner IZRD specialises in preventing religiously motivated extremism, conspiracy ideologies and anti-democratic worldviews. Based in Berlin, the organisation works at the intersection of political education and psychosocial support, offering counselling formats and training to professionals in youth welfare, education and local authorities. Among other initiatives, IZRD developed the VERITAS Counselling Centre, which supports people affected by conspiracy ideologies in their personal environment. The organisation also leads a training series for worldview and extremism officers in youth welfare offices across Germany, aiming to build up a specialised qualification programme for professionals dealing with ideological radicalisation.
Together, SCENOR and IZRD combine complementary strengths in applied research, fieldwork and professional training. The AFETS team is committed to providing practical, evidence-informed materials and tailored formats that help schools respond constructively and confidently to harmful gender norms and anti-egalitarian narratives.
