SCENOR (SCientia ENim ORbis terrarum) is a non-profit association based in Vienna, Austria. Our research activities focus on the topics violent extremism, terrorism, radicalization, and conspiracy myths.

Our goal is to improve society as a whole, promote security and democracy, and contribute to groundbreaking science projects while providing exceptional technical expertise. We believe that the European Union is the ultimate peace project and this is essential to our mission. We feel that not enough emphasis is placed on how society can become better, more modern, and more resilient in the face of the many challenges it faces today. SCENOR is committed to doing its part to address this issue.

We have no political affiliations or interests and strive to be impartial and objective in our research. We seek to collaborate with organizations that share our commitment to impartiality and scientific excellence, whether they are academic or non-academic, profit or non-profit, private or public. We welcome all such organizations as supporting members of our association, and there is no cost to join.

Our team is committed to contributing to the advancement of society by tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time: violent extremism. Unfortunately, this is an element of danger that is often poorly understood, resulting in ad-hoc solutions that fail to systematically mitigate or resolve the issue. We want to change this by providing concrete outputs from our research that can help to address the problem effectively.

We pride ourselves on doing things differently, guided by the following principles:

  • We are committed to evidence-based research that is rooted in rigorous academic standards.

  • We believe in a multidisciplinary approach that draws on diverse perspectives and expertise.

  • We seek to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers, practitioners, and affected communities, to ensure that our research is relevant and actionable.

We are passionate about our work and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to positive change in society.

New research on political violence and violent extremism needs to grow like a plant.

No 9 to 5 thinking

We take a novel approach to extremism research by integrating both basic and applied research. We believe that this fresh perspective benefits from the best practices of research institutes, think tanks, universities, and companies, creating a unique fusion of several fields. Furthermore, we understand the importance of combining research with practical project implementation. We provide our teams with the necessary tools to minimize administrative work and maximize the quality of our research.

No more ivory tower

In the fight against fake news, scientific insights must be shared far and wide. We're committed to making our work accessible to everyone and empowering people with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions. Our blog is just one way how we are achieving that goal to fight terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms.
