THE PROJECT

Hate speech has been increasingly prevalent in the German-speaking online community in recent years. While several studies have examined the contents of well-established social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, there was a lack of knowledge about emerging youth-oriented platforms such as TikTok, Twitch, and Discord, and how hate speech evolves into a right-wing extremist ecosystem within these contexts. To develop effective counter-narratives, it is essential to comprehend how hate speech spreads and transforms online. This project bridged this critical knowledge gap and contributed to the comprehension of how hate speech evolves and spreads online.

ABOUTUS

RECO_DAR was a collaborative initiative that brought together established non-profit and independent organisations from Austria and Germany, each comprising a diverse range of experts in the fields of preventing and countering (right-wing) violent extremism and online radicalisation. Their collective expertise was complementary and ensured the successful delivery of the project’s outputs.
